Entry #8. Best Reality-Competition Shows.

Image
Hello, and welcome back to another blog post in Irv's Subconscious Thoughts. Today, the topic to be discussed is the best competition reality shows I have seen. Unlike Jersey Shore or The Real World, competition reality shows such as survivor follow a format where contestants compete with or against one another to win prizes. So today, I will be introducing my favorite competition reality shows.   One: Survivor Survivor is a reality game show in which 16-20 people are sent to an isolated location (usually but only sometimes a tropical island). Initially, the players are separated into 2 or 3 tribes. Every few days, the tribes will compete in challenges for reward and immunity. The tribe that doesn't win immunity must go to the Tribal Council and vote one of their own out of the game. When 12-10 players remain, the tribes are merged, and challenges are individual. The winner gets immunity from the vote, but all others are at risk of being voted off. All players voted off at thi...

Entry #7. A "Fresh" Review!

Image
Hello all, and welcome back to yet another blog! Today, we will be diving in and reviewing the 2009 documentary titled "Fresh."  So what is "Fresh"?  For those who need to learn what this documentary is about, the documentary displays farmers who utilize sustainable farming. If you are curious about what the farming industry is like and all of the truths that may make you take a second glance at the food you're eating, this film is definitely recommended. Aside from displaying farmers utilizing sustainable practices, we also see things within this film that may shock those unaware of certain farming aspects.  My review of "Fresh"!      Going into the film, I was unenthusiastic about what I was getting myself into. However, even from the first five minutes, I began questioning what I was eating. From the mass amounts of baby chicks that farmers take in yearly to the farmers not even knowing what's in the chick feed, many examples from just the beg...

Entry #6. 3 Horror Movies To Watch This Halloween.

Image
Hello and welcome back to another blog post! In honor of Halloween approaching, I thought something different should be talked about. From slasher films to supernatural horror, there are an overwhelming amount of movies to watch this Halloween. My goal today is to introduce three movies to watch this Halloween. With that being said let's kick off our small list.  1. Halloween (1978)  The first film on our list is a true Halloween classic. If you want to watch a movie that evokes a true Halloween feel, this is your movie!  Halloween (1978) follows a young babysitter Laurie Strode on Halloween night, trying to survive the night as her estranged Brother Michael Myers has escaped an asylum to hunt her and her friends down. This movie is a Halloween watch essential as it birthed one of the earliest scream queens Jamie Lee Curtis,  and will give you all the spooky feelings you desire.  2. The Strangers (2008)  The second film on the list is one of the most...

Entry #5. Mayhem

Image
Hello and welcome back to another blog post from Irv's Subconscious Thoughts. Throughout the prior blog postings, we have discussed a variety of topics that range from introductions to movie recommendations, however, today's posts will differ. We have all seen those silly Allstate commercials, where each advertisement goes over the different ways Allstate covers you by using humorous and over-the-top methods. Today we will be analyzing one of those ads!  from swatting the bathroom sink on and leaving it running to knocking over a candle, this ad presents all the dramatic ways a cat can cause damage to their owner's home. Although the instances shown in the ad can be considered over-the-top and unlikely to occur such as the running water causing the ceiling to fall through, it seems Allstates intentions were to generate the feeling of relatability as audiences who own cats know that cats get into many things they shouldn't.  To add to the relatability aspect of the adve...

Entry #4. Three Major ways Arizona and Michigan Differ.

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to my fourth blog! In today's blog, I will be discussing the ways Arizona and Michigan Differ! First, let me add some context so this post doesn't feel so random and out of nowhere. A little over a year ago I lived in the Great Lake State which to be more precise is Michigan. When I turned 19, I was presented with the opportunity to back my bags and come live in Arizona. After about a month of debating, I decided it was a good option for me.  Now living in Arizona for about a year now I would like to present my top 3 differences between both states, good and bad! ONE: SCENERY DIFFERENCES. As we know Arizona is known for its beautiful mountains that range from small to large, its surplus of cacti of different varieties, and the big desert land that cities are plopped down into. However, Arizona scenery is very different from Michigan scenery. While Arizona has deserts and not much flatland, Michigan has lots of greenery, forests, and lots of fla...

Entry #3. An Experience Almost Like Drinking From A Frozen Lake.

Image
Hello guys, and welcome back to yet another blog!  Today I will be sharing an experience I had not too long ago while eating a particular item after lunch.  This experience was delightful and I'm sure we have all shared this experience, but to make it more interesting I will not be naming what I had eaten. The sound of crackling and popping was generated as I opened the wrapper that contained the small and light object, almost like when opening a potato chip bag.   After opening the wrapper I placed the small white object that resembled a life preserver that you would use to stay afloat in water. As it sat in my hand I could already smell the sweet cool scent that the white object produced. Knowing that the taste would be very rewarding if the scent was already so good, I plopped the object into my mouth.  Almost Immediately I experienced such a cool and sweet sensation. If I closed my eyes I knew this sensation would bring me to a winter day in a snowy st...

Entry #2. 3 Coming Of Age Films To Add To Your Queue!

Image
Hello and welcome back to another blog post!  In today's blog, I will be discussing 3 coming-of-age movies you should add to your queue, and why.  Coming-of-age movies explore many relevant topics, whether they pertain to self-growth, self-discovery, romance, drug addictions, grief, etc. they will always be about simply growing up. Commonly the protagonist will be an adolescent or even a young adult. These protagonists will experience a journey of growth within the duration of the film. In my opinion, coming-of-age films will always leave you will a powerful message, and even after the initial watch will keep you thinking about the message. Below are three movies within the coming-of-age genre, that I believe you should add to your watchlist!  One: My Own Private Idaho. A film directed by Gus Van Sant and starring River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves. In this coming-of-age story, we follow Mike Waters, a gay hustler who has a severe case of narcolepsy, alongside his frien...
